For Staff and Other Health Professionals
“It’s all about the patient.” That’s the motto of the Collaborative Center for Clinical Care Improvement, C4I, a center of excellence at the John Dempsey Hospital dedicated to
patient safety. Our goal is to be the safest hospital in Connecticut.
Several C4I
working committees have targeted areas of care where errors are more likely to occur. Medication errors, patient falls, hospital acquired infections, and pain management are areas that are
particularly vulnerable to errors. We are continually exploring ways to minimize risk, improve environment and encourage communication to ensure our patients with the safest environment
possible. We are monitoring top performing hospitals and comparing our progress.
Recently, the center established the Good Catch Award that recognizes individuals who report “near-miss” situations. The Patient Safety Committee also reviews the “good catches” to look for
ways to prevent the near-misses from reoccurring.
C4I also looks at the organizational culture. Employee satisfaction and safety translates to better patient care and lower risk of mishap.
We encourage your comments and suggestions.
