For Staff and Other Health Professionals

The Department of Clinical Effectiveness and Patient Safety represents the commitment of health care professionals and staff working together with one common goal: creating the safest hospital in Connecticut.

Several working committees have targeted areas of care where errors are more likely to occur. Medication errors, patient falls, hospital acquired infections, and pain management are areas that are particularly vulnerable to errors. We are continually exploring ways to minimize risk, improve environment and encourage communication to ensure our patients with the safest environment possible. We are monitoring top performing hospitals and comparing our progress.

The Good Catch Award recognizes individuals who report “near-miss” situations. The Patient Safety Committee reviews the “good catches” to look for ways to prevent the near-misses from reoccurring.

The Department of Clinical Effectiveness and Patient Safety also looks at the organizational culture. Employee satisfaction and safety translates to better patient care and lower risk of mishap.

We encourage your comments and suggestions.
