Falls
Patient falls account for some of the most frequent accidents in
hospitals nationwide, our goal is to prevent them and make John Dempsey
Hospital the safest hospital in the state. Here’s what you can do to
prevent falls while in the hospital.
- Become familiar with your environment.
- Make sure the call button at your bed works and you know how to
use it.
- Call for help before the need to use the restroom becomes
urgent.
- Wear shoes or slippers with “non-slip” soles.
- Make sure there is adequate light to see, and keep your glasses
within reach.
- When getting out of bed, sit up slowly, put your feet on the
floor, and test your strength. If you need help, use your call
button to request assistance.
- If you have been identified to be at risk for falls, wear your
yellow bracelet at all times.
